This project attempts to transform the walking experience on seven arterial roads in Andheri (E) which house a large number of top corporates offices, numerous micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), schools, residential colonies, five start hotels, hospitals and other entities. The roads have a continuous flow of pedestrians who have to encounter extremely difficult conditions while undertaking even short walks. The conditions can be best described by the pictures below

There was a gap in between. We have now resumed efforts. Reaching out to the community and seeking their participation and involvement will be first step.

We took the first step and submitted a letter to the municipal corporation suggesting the plan with a request to look into it favourably.
The Mumbai Suburban Railway System is used by 8 million commuters daily. These commuters are exposed to some of the worst walking conditions every time they have to access these railway stations. Improving the pedestrian infrastructure in a 200 meter radius of railway stations will bring dramatically improve the walking experience in Mumbai Metropolitan Region for 8 million people
There is a considerable potential to bring about immediate improvement in the walking experience in a number of short stretches at thousands of locations in Mumbai. These could be junctions, short footpath stretches, medians etc. 50 -200 meters would be the general length.
If you can identify a location for spot fixing please do email to us at info@walkingproject.org
